Dyslexia Training
Dyslexia is different for everyone.
This is where I come in. I am qualified to perform the AFS – Test.
What is Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding). Dyslexia affects areas of the brain that process language. With early intervention and support in the educational system, it can become manageable and the person can succeed in school and all aspects of life.
Possible causes:
Dyslexia is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by difficulties in reading, spelling, and writing. Emerging research suggests that dyslexia stems from individual variances in specific brain regions.
There is also evidence indicating a hereditary component, as dyslexia often clusters within families. Recent studies have identified certain genes associated with dyslexia, influencing the brain’s processing of reading and language.
Common signs and symptoms:
The signs of dyslexia may become evident as early as preschool age.
Recognising the signs can make a big difference. Here are some common signs:
Before school:
- Started talking very late
- Learning new words slowly
- Problems remembering or naming letters, numbers and colours
- Difficulty learning nursery rhymes or playing rhyming games
In school (school age):
- Difficulty reading and spelling
- Problems processing and understanding what is heard
- Problems remembering the sequence of things
- Difficulty seeing (and occasionally hearing) similarities and differences in letters and words
- Messy handwriting
- Inattention while reading, writing or doing homework – seems distracted
Avoiding activities that involve reading.
